Note from the photographer: "For me photography is a natural extension of my love for the great outdoors. I have always loved that feeling of complete solitude, just myself and the elements, out in the natural surroundings. It stirs a calmness that helps puts life and worries into perspective and I truly believe it helps heal and nurture your soul. My camera gives me the perfect motivation to get up, go explore and attempt to capture the beauty of the area that I live and love. To stand and just simply gaze in awe at the sheer majesty of a sunrise, knowing that I am the only one up and around to witness or being out in the howling wind and rain to shoot the waves crashing along the coast, in freezing fog and ice to capture who knows what. It makes you feel alive.
My journey into photography started upon moving to North East Essex in 2015. It soon transpired that my neighbour and late great friend Mick Box loved walking; and so, one winter’s afternoon we went for a walk along the shoreline at Wrabness at sunset. It was my first visit to Wrabness and it is this majestic stretch of coast that inspired me to take a photograph and that one photograph snapped on my phone was the catalyst that sparked my passion with photography.
I love that feeling of childlike wonder and excitement at exploring new places and that one walk sparked a fuse; with every walk that followed I fell more in love with the beauty of the local area as I was falling in love with photography. Mick, having lived his whole life in the local area, knew all the local walks, places to go and see, the history and the people, his love for the area was infectious and rubbed off on me. Sadly Mick passed away in May 2019 but I hope that the essence of the love and unbridled pride he had and instilled in me for our breath - taking local landscape is captured in my photographs."
