Stretching from Manningtree to Harwich in Essex the Stour Estuary has recently been designated as an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The sailing boats moored and dotted along the Estuary at Manningtree and Mistley give way to a more industrial scene as you come to Mistley Wharf and the factories of Edme. The view soon changes to sloping banks lined with mature oak trees, extensive salt marsh and rural farmland as you head through Bradfield towards the beach huts at Wrabness and beyond to the ports of both Harwich and Felixstowe. The views are breath-taking in their beauty with the sweeping curves of the Estuary giving a panoramic view of the rolling hills and farmland that line it, the tide often so still the reflections are perfectly mirrored in the water.
